In
the timeline workbook are a series of outline world maps.
There is a system of referring to these maps throughout the
timeline. The student makes up his or her own numbering guide
based on locations that they come to in their studies.
As an example - suppose the student studies
an event that happens in Jamestown and it is the first time
they are entering information into this timeline. Jamestown
would be their No. 1 location. They would enter a very small
"1" where Jamestown is on the map and then they
would make a small key on the bottom of the page and write
1 - Jamestown. In the example No. 2 is Boston and No. 3 is
Washington D.C. They are encouraged to not write "Jamestown"
on the map because it would quickly become filled with names
and soon become almost useless.

Now whenever in the timeline there could be
a focus on Jamestown, a small 12-1 is written in the timeline.
The number means 12 for Map No. 12 and location No. 1. For
instance when putting Captain John Smith in the timeline,
he lived first in England so by his name could be 4-1 because
Europe is Map No. 4 and Willoughby, England (for example purposes)
was the first notation on the page - Willoughby is known throughout
this sample as 4-1. Then when he came to the New World, he
was in Jamestown. See the examples of the timeline pages with
his pictures. The first is by the date when he was born and
the second during his time in Jamestown.
